My dear Gent,

I very much dislike signing despatch No.117

of the 9th February about compensation for the Tung

Wah Infectious Diseases Hospital. The whole thing

seems inequitable but

(a) it appears that Government is bound by

the terms of the lease to give

and

compensation

(b) the offer of $50,000 was made to the

Directors before I reached this Colony and I

do not see how the Government can possibly get

out of it at this stage.
